Health Technologies programs have a limited number of spaces for admission each year. For most health programs, entry is gained by a first-qualified, first-admitted process. For nursing programs, entry is earned by a competitive admissions process.
A first-qualified, first-admitted process admits students in the order in which they complete all enrollment steps (including developmental courses) and qualify to enter the program. Once all seats are filled, additional students are only admitted when space becomes available. Students who are not offered a seat in the program should meet with an advisor to determine if they could take other courses to prepare for future entry into the program.
The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) and Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) programs have a competitive admissions process. The Nursing programs application deadline is February 1 of the year the student wishes to enter the program (fall start date). Students are responsible for meeting the admissions requirements outlined on the program checklists on each Health Technologies program web page. Once completed, students should submit all required paperwork to the Admissions office. Students are encouraged to complete the program admissions requirements as quickly as possible to ensure the best chance of admission to a program. Students are also encouraged to follow up with a program admissions counselor at reasonable intervals to review progress toward admission.
If you are applying for the Associate Degree Nursing, Clinical Trials Research Associate, Dental Laboratory Technology, Health Information Technology, Medical Assisting, Medical Product Safety/Pharmacovigilance, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Opticianry, Pharmacy Technology, Practical Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, or Surgical Technology program, you must complete the following admissions steps:
- Step 1: Submit a completed enrollment application online by the enrollment due date: March 15 for summer, June 15 for fall, and October 15 for spring.
Step 2: Provide Proof of Placement: Submit official transcripts and/or test scores if you:
- Graduated from a US high school less than ten years ago, or
- Took the ACT or SAT less than ten years ago, or
- Took the GED since 2014 and scored 170 or higher on the “Reasoning Through Language Arts” and/or “Mathematics” tests.
Submit sealed, official documents to the Student Information and Records Office in the Phail Wynn, Jr. Student Services Center, room 10-201 or email electronic transcripts to email@example.com through an approved transcript provider such as ACT, CFNC, College Board, Joint Services Transcripts, National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment, ScribOnline, and Script-Safe. Additionally, official transcripts of Home School organizations must also be accompanied by a copy of the verification of state authority to operate.
If you do not have recent high school transcripts, ACT, SAT, or GED test scores, then you should prepare to take the placement test. View test prep materials and testing schedules. Placement Testing is available at the main campus and Orange County Campus. You will need a student ID number and a photo ID to take the test.
- Step 6: Complete a Clinical Training form.
- Step 7: Students applying to a Health Technologies program must meet the English Language Requirement. Complete the English Language Requirement form.
- Step 8: If you are applying to the Associate Degree Nursing, Clinical Trials Research Associate, Health Information Technology, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Respiratory Therapy, or Surgical Technology program, you must also complete the required science prerequisites in Biology and Chemistry. You may satisfy the biology and chemistry prerequisite by documenting one of the following:
- High school biology and chemistry courses (one high school unit each) that are less than 10 years old by the time a student achieves the required scores on the placement test OR completes all required developmental courses. Documented courses must be completed with a “C” (numerical value 77) or better grade;
- College (post-high school) courses in biology and chemistry. Documented courses must be completed with a “C” or better grade;
- Successful completion of BIO 168 with a “C” or better grade;
- Successful completion of CHM 130/130A; or
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in a biological science, chemistry, or allied health area.
- Step 9: As part of our enrollment process, if you are not a US citizen or if you have attended school in another country, we must review your immigration documents to determine tuition status. Please visit the Center for the Global Learner in the White Building (Building 1), room 58, to have your immigration documents verified. For additional information, call the Director of International Services at 919-536-7264, ext. 4052. This step in the enrollment process must be completed before you can take classes.
- Step 10: You will receive notification via email about acceptance into Durham Tech.
